Those three things are what we will be doing for the next couple of months.
Last Thursday was our first 3-practices-night.
Ty and Cate practiced at the same time, and unfortunately Cate's coaches were both gone and JD stepped in to help, so Ty was on his own for his first (ever!) practice. He was fine. Halle "helped" him (her best friend's parents are coaching the team) and he was definitely the only one who had a clue about what was going on. Not that he's an all-star. :)
The first thing they did was run the bases- Ty refused to take his glove off.
By the second time around he figured out it was safe to leave it by the dugout. Ha!
My view of Cate's practice from my spot at Ty's field:
It is entirely possible that Cate will be our best athlete.
We'll see.
Halle and Ava doing what Halle and Ava do:
(talking, laughing, reading, talking, writing, etc.)
Dirt is irresistible.
After "the middles" (our current nickname for Cate and Ty) had practice, it was Halle's turn. They actually had a scrimmage that night, and although Halle has gotten a LOT better than she was at the end of last year, it is obvious that this will be the deciding year for her. If she enjoys it and works hard we'll let her play (assuming she wants to) next year. If not, goodbye softball. :) This 7-9 year softball league is no joke.
Our left fielder:
She did get on base with a decent hit!
This balancing 3 teams thing is just the beginning, I fear. Luckily, we all enjoy being at the ballpark together! JD and I have made a pact that FAMILY is (of course!) more important than activities, but when we can do activities as a family its just fine. The kids learning to cheer for their siblings (even when tired/hungry/cranky) is a good thing. Learning that we sacrifice some of our wants (ex: going home.) for others is a good thing. And being outside all evening together, is a really good thing.
